The Observatory of Popular Associations (OBAP) is a partnership project between the Portuguese Confederation of Culture, Recreation and Sports Associations and two Portuguese universities, ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon (specifically, the Centro de Investigação e Estudos em Sociologia (Centre for Sociological Study and Research)) and Lusophone University, whose objective is to deepen knowledge about the Portuguese popular associative movement. It was created in 2003 as a partnership between CPCCRD and Lusophone University, being reactivated in 2018 through a new protocol. In 2019, ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon will join the project. OBAP has a board of directors, composed of one representative from each partner body, which is responsible for approving the OBAP’s activity plans and reports. The scientific coordination team is composed of Professor Nuno Nunes (CIES-Iscte) and Professor Paulo Mendes Pinto (Lusophone University).
